Students, postdocs, and collaborators. I'd love to hear from you.

From December 2026, I will be a Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Glasgow, where I’m starting a research group. If you’re curious about working together, please get in touch.

Who I’m looking for

  • Students looking for supervision for an undergraduate project, a master’s project, or a PhD.
  • Postdocs who would like to work with me, including through fellowships where I would be your host.
  • Collaborators at any career stage, in or outside academia.

What I work on

My research has always crossed disciplinary boundaries. I have worked in cognitive science, computational neuroscience, AI alignment and safety, behavioural modelling, and philosophy of science, often several at once. The common thread is learning: how people learn, teach, communicate, and work together to solve problems, and how AI can both help us understand these capacities and help support them.

I’m particularly keen to hear from people working in any of those areas. I would also love to find collaborators in:

  • metascience
  • computational social science
  • environmental psychology

You don’t need to fit neatly into any one of these. If your interests sit between fields, we may get along well.

How to get in touch

Email me at jessica.thompson@psy.ox.ac.uk. It helps if your email includes:

  • a little about who you are and what stage you’re at
  • what you’d like to work on, or which of my projects or papers caught your interest
  • for students and postdocs: your CV, when you would hope to start, and whether you have funding or plan to apply for it

PhD and fellowship funding deadlines are often many months before the start date, so it’s worth getting in touch early.
